About this resource
Maternal, neonatal, and child mortality is still a major public health problem in several developing countries. In Guinea, despite having achieved some progress as per the 2018 demographic survey, the level of impact indicators remains very concerning.
In order to contribute towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Government of Guinea, through the Ministry of Health and its partners, revised its national policy on health and developed the 2015-2024 National Health Development Plan, the second strategic priority of which is to promote maternal, neonatal, child and adolescent health. Guinea developed and implemented the Strategic Plan for Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH-N) for the 2016-2020 period, to further focus on the health of the most vulnerable populations.
The evaluation conducted at the final stage of the implementation of the 2016-2020 RMNCAH-N Strategic Plan revealed some improvements in health care coverage. The recommendations and lessons learned from this evaluation led to the development of the current RMNCAH-N Strategic Plan (2020-2024.) The overall objective of this plan is to eliminate preventable maternal, neonatal and child deaths, and to promote the well-being of women, newborns, children, adolescents and youth, using a multisector approach based on universal rights and access to RMNCAH-N services provided along a respectful continuum.
