In 2010, the Ministry of Public Health and for the Fight against AIDS of Burundi adopted a Performance-Based Financing approach to address issues in the country’s free package of health services scheme. Piloted for four years, the project was subsequently scaled up nationally. To better understand the dynamics and mechanisms after four years of implementation at the national level, the National Technical Unit for Performance-Based Financing (TU-PBF) analyzed the evolution of some quantitative indicators subsidized by PBF between 2011 and 2013.
